Jude Snowden
Jude Snowden, MA, is a nutritional and linguistic anthropologist. They received their Master’s in Applied Anthropology from the University of Memphis where they used ethnographic research methods to improve meal servicing at a summer camp for immigrant children in the American Midwest. Their current Ph.D. research follows strongman athletes as they prepare for competitions to explore how their social interactions with coaches, fellow athletes, and family and friends shape eating, exercise, and other fitness practices that in turn prepare their bodies to lift hundreds of pounds for hours at a time. More generally, their research interests explore how communication and interaction shape food choice, and how individuals navigate changes in their bodies over time. In their free time, Jude likes to lift weights, draw architecture and anatomy, play Dungeons and Dragons, and host themed mocktail parties.
